Inger Marie Scavenius Villa Huno

Inger Marie Scavenius on choosing with the heart

We are inspired by the people we meet on our path. In our series we share some of the encounters that make an impression. With her strong charisma and welcoming nature, Inger Marie is certainly one of them.

Inger Marie Scavenius runs Klintholm Gods on Møn, together with her husband. In addition to the estate, they also have the boutique hotel Villa Huno, and as a new feature, they also offer glamping.

MONEY

Inger Marie Scavenius and her husband made the decision to leave the inner city of Copenhagen and move to Møn 6 years ago. They were driven by the desire for more freedom to be creative, and they were eager to become part of the development on Møn, which is currently going very fast.

With a background as a cand.oecon.agro, Inger Marie Scavenius has a good sense of having her fingers well buried in the rich Møn soil. So in addition to offering wild scenic overnight stays and great local dining experiences for Møn's many tourists, the couple also works with a concept like permaculture.

DARK SKY

One special thing that is cherished on Møn is the darkness at night. Villa Huno is located in the middle of the only Dark Sky Park in the Nordic region. This means that the darkness at night is pitch black. There is no light pollution here and thus an unobstructed view of the stars. On cloudless nights you can see millions of stars and be fascinated by the endless night sky. The dark nights are also enormously important for both us humans and wildlife.

PERMACULTURE AND GRAZING COWS

The estate includes large areas of land, which the couple manages with consideration for both climate and nature. The solution is permaculture and holistic grazing, which involves giving nature space to develop wildly and regenerate itself using its own mechanisms. That is why they are not afraid to say that cows are indispensable nature caretakers, and that it is one-sided to only see them as climate sinners. Cows have always been natural grazers, and this keeps nature open to the light. Especially open nature on limestone grasslands is very rare in Denmark and Europe. Without the cows, the fine limestone grasslands would grow with scrub and later forest, which blocks out the light and thus excludes a fauna and animal life that is undergoing a strong decline.

STAY OVERNIGHT AND HELP TO TAKE CARE OF NATURE

Nature has many answers in itself, and they listen to them at Klintholm Gods. Whether you are a guest at the hotel or in a tent, you also become part of history and help support the important work and preserve a unique part of Denmark.
