I WILL ALWAYS HAVE MY FINGERS IN THE CLAY

The first time Julie Damhus held clay in her hands was at a design school in Canada. She then did an internship with potter Lars Kähler, who taught her everything about turning. The story of Julie Damhus Studio is the story of a love for the natural material clay, about the craft of being a ceramist, about the simple design language and, not least, about creating something that creates value for others.

"I'm happy if I can always live off what makes me happy and gives me the freedom to do things my own way. My dream is to have a healthy business that never gets so big that I no longer have my hands in the clay."

IT ALL STARTED WITH DANISH HAND-TURNED STONEWARE

Julie Damhus has been producing hand-turned ceramics from her workshop in Djursland since 2017. Julie is a trained industrial designer specializing in ceramics from the Kolding School of Design and was apprenticed to potter Lars H. Kähler.

Julie then got a job at an architectural firm, but she couldn't completely let go of ceramics, which she continued to do on the side. Over time, the demand for ceramics grew and grew – enough that she decided to start her own business.

“I am driven by the process and by seeing the finished results. When you open a kiln full of pottery and the clay has hardened and is now usable. I am driven by the fact that customers like it and use it.”

Julie Damhus uses only stoneware and matte glazes, which is one of the hallmarks of her designs. She also has a color palette that is repeated in all products.

"It all started with exclusively Danish hand-turned stoneware, but now I also have production abroad, which is part of my brand. There are not many left in Denmark who can turn and make a living from it, and I feel lucky that this is something I have succeeded in."

I AM CLOSELY CONNECTED TO MY WORK

" I never thought I would start my own business and have employees. Ceramics is both my great hobby and my livelihood. It can be a very difficult balance, when to take time off and when to work. I love my work and therefore it is difficult to take time off, but with a family of 5 and with a husband who is also self-employed, it is necessary to take time off once in a while - and probably healthy too. What has surprised me the most is that I am so closely tied to my work. I simply can't help it!"

DANISH PRODUCTION & GOOD QUALITY

"I have chosen to collaborate with Yrolí because we are both passionate about Danish production and good quality. We share many of the same basic ideas. Our products fit well together and help create value in everyday life. In addition, I love collaborating with nice and talented people who are also passionate about what they do."

IT CAN BE DUSTY & DRY IN A CERAMIC WORKSHOP

"Both morning and evening, I cleanse my face of make-up and dirt that has accumulated during the day. It can be dusty, dry and hot in a pottery workshop. It is therefore important to give the skin some moisture, so after cleansing I care for the skin with a good facial oil ."

A NON-GREYING FACIAL OIL

“Yrolí's facial oil is a favorite! It penetrates quickly and moisturizes the skin without leaving it greasy.”
