Beauty, strength and substance

A conversation with Susanne Guldager Langemark, founder of La Femme Rousse and ambassador for Yrolí

When you meet Susanne Guldager Langemark, you immediately feel her uncompromising love for quality, aesthetics and meaningful choices. She is behind La Femme Rousse – a small fashion company with a big heart, where every single design is created from a deep respect for materials, people and the environment. "I work with slow fashion and use only recycled or surplus materials," she says. "Because I believe that we can create beauty with a conscience – and clothes that last in terms of aesthetics, quality and connection."

An industry in change

The fashion industry is in flux, and Susanne is one of those who doesn't just point out the problems, but tries to show new paths. "We have to start asking questions. Who made this piece of clothing? How long can I wear it? And how does it feel – both on my body and in my conscience?"

She emphasizes that it's not about completely stopping consuming – but about doing less and better. "We need to learn to see clothes as an investment. Something we choose with care and that has the potential to follow us for many years. It's not just about material or price, but about sensuality, fit and function."

For Susanne, it is crucial that we do not try to create change through condemnation. "We should not shame each other – we should inspire each other. We have different prerequisites and different paths into conscious choices. The most important thing is that we start to reflect and share experiences – and that we show that there are alternatives."

When we create an emotional connection to what we own, we also take better care of it. "Clothes we've chosen with our hearts and worn with joy are not something we just throw away. They carry stories and memories. And when something means something to us, we're also more willing to keep it, take care of it – and have it repaired when it breaks. That's where the slow value arises."

And she senses that a new movement is taking shape. "We won't get there overnight. But we can take small steps – and we can take them together."

When courage falters – and grows

At the beginning of 2024, Susanne was close to closing her business. “It’s not easy to insist on circular fashion, small productions and decent conditions,” she says honestly. “But my family reminded me that change takes time. It takes stubbornness and patience to go against the conventional system – and to prove that it is actually possible to run a business based on circular thinking: using existing materials, creating clothes with a long lifespan and offering repairs if something breaks.”
She pulled herself together – and found her inner fighting spirit again. It was the start of something new.
Shortly after, an unexpected email landed in her inbox, and two months later she was in the middle of filming as a judge on DR's Denmark's Next Fashion Designer . It was the beginning of a lot of new opportunities: lectures, debates and political conversations at Christiansborg – and seriously new visibility for her message.
She also turned an idea into reality when she created custom pajamas for two hotels out of their own discarded sheets – a project with great potential and which she is currently developing further.
"Being able to help hotels take responsibility for their own textile waste is incredibly meaningful. It's an area where I can really help make a real difference," she says.
And finally, it all led to the collaboration with Yrolí, where Susanne is now part of the brand's ambassador universe.

Everyday choices with depth

As a mother of three girls, a bonus mother of two big boys, an entrepreneur and a spouse, Susanne's everyday life is full. That's why she makes a virtue of finding little pockets for herself. "It could be the depths of the ocean. A book. A piece of music. Or just the peace of being completely present. Those moments make me happy – and remind me that I also need to take care of myself."

Why Yrolí?

"Yrolí feels like a natural match," says Susanne. "There's an uncompromising and authenticity in their approach to beauty that I mirror. Just like I do in my business, they insist on doing things differently – slower, more honestly and with respect for both body and planet. It's beauty that connects – not just adorns."

A common movement

With her voice, her work and her presence, Susanne helps inspire a new way of choosing. A way where beauty is not about surface, but about connection. Where aesthetics and responsibility do not exclude each other, but lift each other. And where the pace is slowed down so that we can feel ourselves and what we surround ourselves with.

For her, it's not just an individual practice – but part of a larger movement. A community of people and brands that dare to insist on something different. Something more genuine. "When we choose with presence, we also choose with care – for ourselves, for others and for the resources we use.”

It's about taking a stand and choosing with your heart – both when caring for your skin and building your wardrobe. "That's why I'm proud to be an ambassador for Yrolí," she says.

"Because together we can show that slowness, beauty and substance are the way of the future."
